March 2008 Update: provided The Capital Scot copies of the state proclamations and resolutions for National Scots, Scots-Irish Heritage Month (April) 2008. So far the following have been received: Delaware Kentucky Michigan North Carolina Pennsylvania West Virginia
Maybe cities will also start doing this: Dover, Delaware (courtesy of the American Clan Gregor Society).
Progress to date may also be viewed at Electric Scotland.
February 2008 Update: , Chairman, National Scots, Scots-Irish Heritage Month, write that for the first time Scots in N.C. had a bill that recognized the contributions of Scots and Scots-Irish - HJR 2067. Previously we had 'Governors Proclamations' for several years, but more recently a permanent bill.
February 2008 Update: From the American Clan Gregor Society State Deputy Chieftain for Delaware: I contacted the Governor's Office and received a signed copy of the State of Delaware's proclamation declaring April 2008 Scots, Scots-Irish Heritage Month. I also contacted the Mayor of the City of Dover, where I am employed, and he is intending to issue a like proclamation on March 24th. I will send a copy of his proclamation once I receive it.
February 2008 Update: We need to let people know to celebrate the entire month of April and that we are continuing to work toward the stated goal. Although President Bush has not proclaimed or signed Tartans Day as well, folks should celebrate that too. We Scots don't need anyone's permission to celebrate our heritage.

April 2007 Correspondence: Several Scottish and Irish heritage societies in North Carolina are submitting a petition to the President of the United Staes to designate April of each year as National Scots, Scots-Irish Heritage Month. The facilitator of this effort asked The Capital Scot to advertise that effort and encourage other Scots-Irish heritage societies to join in a similar effort.
We are asking that groups join in with us on this petition and by sending letters of support to us, thereby enabling us to organize everyone. Also they can sign on to the request and send it to the White House. Hopefully by both means we can flood the President and get both the month of recognition and put additional pressure to have Tartan Day signed as well. You can send a letter of support to me via ---
or to my address given below. Once again thanks and don't hesitate to have your readers call on me.
