We at Sigma Press rarely use the internet to promote our books - except via our web site - but could not resist on this occasion because of the unusual nature of this new book. Briefly, The Celtic Way is an account of one of the longest and most interesting long-distance walks in Britain. Running to a total of 722 miles, the Celtic Way could well form the challenge of a lifetime for many walkers but it's equally possible to walk individual sections or to complete it as a series of expeditions.
The book, almost 300 pages long, was written by a team of enthusiasts - each with their own enthusiasm and expertise for their area. The project was co-ordinated by Val Saunders Evans - a lifelong walker and expeditions leader. Val got her team together by advertising in 'The Guardian' for like-minded people: possibly the first time that a walking book has been created in this way!
Naturally, there's more to this unusual book than just a set of route instructions. Passing through South Wales, Wiltshire, Somerset, Devon & Cornwall, its purpose is to lead walkers into a discovery of the Celtic heritage which lies beneath the ancient history of western Britain. This seems particularly appropriate as we approach the millennium - a time for reflection for many people and walking along the Celtic Way is probably a better spiritual experience than a visit to Mandelson's Folly. Sites along the route include Caerleon, Avebury, Stonehenge and the major hillforts of Cadbury and Maiden Castle. There are even plans to extend the route into Brittany - which will be documented in future editions of this (already large) book!
The Celtic Way costs ukp9.95. For further details, see our web site - details below. If anyone would like more info - or to give me a good telling off - there's every conceivable means of contacting me (below).
Thanks for your patience - we won't make a habit of this!
