"Over The Bridge To Skye"

support@softdev.demon.co.uk writes:

"Yesterday I was meant to be standing trail in Dingwall for non-payment of the Skye Bridge Tolls. The case was persponed due the Sheriff being unavailable, the last time I tried not to turn up because I was busy a warrant was issued for my arrest! Justice?

"Anyway one of my arguements is that I have not committed a crime against the people of Scotland for whom the Scottish legal system is intended to protect and serve. I know very few people who consider that it is right that I should be given a criminal record even if I am found guilty.

"I would like to conduct a little survey, so please mail me directly and let me know what you think. I will post the results in a few weeks. If you would like to participate please answer the following:

  1. "Do you consider 5UKP (each way) to much to cross to Skye to much?
  2. "Was Mr Forsyth right to make non-payment of the Skye Bridge toll a criminal offence?
  3. "What do you consider a fair toll?
    1. Free
    2. 1UKP
    3. 2UKP
    4. 3UKP
    5. 4UKP
    6. 5UKP+"

Thank you in advance.

And as a final note here is a little poem I wrote sitting in court one day:

"Once there was a ferry,
And we all sailed the sea.
Now there is a bridge,
And a dirty big fee

"So up we trooped,
And didnae pay.
And tae Dingwall,
For the Sheriff to have his say.

"Well the Sheriff asked,
If we were who we were.
and lo and behold,
We were.

"Not guilty was the
Chorus from the gallery.
Jail called the PF,
or Austrailia maybe.

"So with buchet and spade
to court next time.
But all we're likely to get
Is a ruddy great fine.

"Down hearted we're not
As we await the Sheriff's word,
Because 100 of us stood
And we have been heard."
