Reviews and the Reviewers

Reviews --

The Capital Scot solicits information about the book and its author.  To meet this site's readers' expectations, information about the book must be more than a blurb that one typically would find on a bookseller's Web site.  It should contain excerpts from the book that portray its character.

Reviewers --

Reviews are accepted at this time only from authors and publishers of the books being reviewed, and participants in the Scottish Literary Forum.

Other Contributors --

Reviews by by other persons are not being accepted at this time.

Terms

Cost --

There is no cost for the publicity provided by a review being published on The Capital Scot. This is a free service and is part of the daily operation of the site known as The Capital Scot.

Courtesy Copies --

Because this is a free service The Capital Scot does not require, courtesy copies of books. However, they will be accepted if offered. Authors and publishers desiring to provide courtesy copies may for a mailing address.

Guidelines

Book reviews shall meet the standards for content, "Safe for Kids" and privacy outlined below.

Content --

The Capital Scot accepts reviews of books that meet the following criteria for content:

• The author is a native Scot living in the United Kingdom and the book is on any topic.
• The author is not necessarily a native Scot and the book is on a topic about Scotland.
• The author is not necessarily a native Scot and the book is on a topic about Scottish heritage regardless of geographical setting.

Safe for Kids --

The Capital Scot rates itself "Safe for Kids" with parental guidance. The Capital Scot does NOT use profanity or vulgarity.

• It meets the Safe for Kids standards for all ages.
• It meets The SafeSurf Internet Rating Standard for all ages.
• It meets standards.
• It is ICRA Checked - registered in the ICRA database.

Privacy --

The Capital Scot maintains the privacy of its readers, specifically:

• This site does NOT obtain personally-identifying information about you when you visit unless you choose to provide such information such as on a form or in an e-mail.
   
• By sending us an electronic mail message, you may be sending us personal information (e.g., name and e-mail address).  We may store the name and e-mail address of the requester in order to respond to the request or to otherwise resolve the subject matter of your e-mail.
   
• This site may collect and store information for statistical purposes.  For example, we may count the number of visitors to the different sections of our site to help us make them more useful to visitors.  Similar information is gathered for anonymous ftp, remote account login, or for other comparable types of connections.
   
• This site maintains the privacy of readers who appear to be children.

Format for Book Reviews

Submission of a Book Review --

The submitter may send the review in the body of en e-mail or in a text attachment. The submitter must include the information required by the format, discussed below, and the following statements: "I certify that the following information is true:

• "I am the author of the book whose review accompanies this message.
• [required if applicable] "My book is on the following topic and I am a native born Scot living in Scotland.
• [required if applicable] "My book is on the following topic about Scotland [stated topic].
• "I am the author of the book review that accompanies this message."

Information Required in a Book Review --

Book reviews must contain the following information:

• Book Title
• Sub-title (if any)
• Name of Author-Reviewer
• Name of Publisher, City, Year
• ISBN #
• Link to Publisher's Web Site (if any)
• Name of On-Line Vendor (if any)
• Link to the Page (if any) of Vendor's Web Site Advertising this Book
• Link to Author-Reviewer's Web Site (if any)
• A statement that: "Original © Copyright by Name and e-mail address of Copyright owner of this review (i.e., the author of the book being reviewed). Used by permission of the author. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed without permission of the author."
