By Yon Bonnie Banks By Yon Bonnie Braes: A Tayside Childhood is an amusing, nostalgic yet moving account of everyday living in a small Scottish town on the bonnie banks and braes of the River Tay just after the second world war, mostly between 1946-1956, as remembered by the author.

People from all parts of Scotland will be able to identify with many of the events and happenings. The book in most parts is written in the vernacular and in the way in which things were spoken.

The book starts with an armchair tour of Tayport during the period of about 1946 -1956. She starts this off going over the places that were in existence at that time recording this in an anecdotal form through her life as a bairn born, bred and educated in Tayport. It also reflects on happenings in other Tayside Towns and Cities - Broughty Ferry, Wormit, Newport, and Dundee. The idea was to remind people of the life that we had then.

Inevitably, there are some sad memories. However, the following chapters are about the customs etc., that were taking place not only in Tayport but in the Tayside area of Scotland. Her memories will be shared by most of the local people. As the author said: "Let's preserve our history and chuckle."
